My writing mentors have instructed me to write about the obstacle(s) in my way when I find myself unable to write to a prompt or am stalled in a writing project. I recently banged out an essay that did just that which I shared with my local writing group here in Missoula, Montana. They provided excellent suggestions for polishing it, and encouraged me to send it out for publication. I took the plunge and submitted the final version to a couple of online magazines. I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from Fauxmoir magazine that they have accepted my essay, and will be publishing it in their next online issue (No. 7). The essay--"The Curator of Family Regrets"--explores the often dark, melancholic histories tied to artifacts given or bequeathed to me by my relatives, and how I have allowed the effect those histories have on me to impede my progress on my current memoir project. I will let folks know when Issue No. 7 of Fauxmoir magazine drops. Stay tuned!
